Hi! My name is Dr. Deidra Salamone, and I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. I am very pleased to be joining the group of professionals at Ramous Psychology & Associates, and I look forward to providing quality psychotherapy services in a safe and supportive environment. I have a passion for empowering clients through the therapeutic process, and helping them to establish and maintain positive changes in their lives. I possess clinical expertise serving diverse groups, ranging from individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to clients seeking outpatient services for transient issues. As such, I have experience working with various (and often times, co-occurring) difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, schizophrenia/other psychotic disorders, paraphilias, and personality disorders.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Dayton in Ohio, and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology at Wichita State University in Kansas. Additionally, I completed both a pre-doctoral internship and a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Behavioral Medicine, a psychiatric hospital in Missouri. My academic training emphasized the importance of evidence-based practices (i.e., treatments that have been shown to work through research), particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I was taught to rely on scientific literature for identifying and utilizing effective and efficacious therapeutic interventions with clients. Thus, within my clinical work, I often rely on a number of treatment “tools,” such as interpersonal and coping skills development activities, problem solving, assertiveness training, and mindfulness.
Above all, I believe in the uniqueness of each individual, their capacity for self-exploration, and their desire for meaningful change and growth. I also understand the importance of meeting clients where they are in the change process, using empathy and compassion while also motivating and empowering clients to live in accordance with their values and attain their goals.
