Hello, I am Dr. Renee Hurley, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I am thrilled to be part of the professional team at Ramous Psychology and Associates and offer a wide range of psychotherapy services for young adults through older and aging adults.
My therapeutic style is based on person-centered humanistic principles emphasizing authenticity, empathy and support in a judgement free atmosphere. I strongly believe in the therapeutic relationship. My approach uses integrated evidence based treatment approaches including Strength-based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I believe in personalized collaboration empowering clients to discover and utilize their own strengths to accomplish day to day goals, overcome obstacles and have a fulfilling life.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania in California, PA and my Master of Education degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. I earned my Doctorate of Education degree in Leadership and Administration from Point Park University, Pittsburgh, PA. My training and experience throughout the years have been with community agencies, outpatient and group counseling settings, and within a hospital setting. I have presented at national conferences on patient experience and organizational culture. In addition, I’ve been an Adjunct Psychology Professor at PennWest University (California University of Pennsylvania).
My professional experience includes the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) Leadership Councils, Patient and Family Engagement (PFE) Leadership Council, and Patient and Family Advisory Council. I have been a member of the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA) group and a member of the California University of Pennsylvania Health Resources and Services Administration Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (HRSA BHWET) Advisory Board.
I have a wide range of experience with Anxiety related conditions, Compassion Fatigue and Burnout, Coping and Adjusting to Health-related diagnoses and issues, Grief and Loss, Conflict Resolution and managing important relationships, Life Transitions (i.e. career changes, parenting, retirement, caring for aging parents).
I also have an interest and experience in working with individuals who grew up with parents/caregivers who struggled to regulate their emotions, set healthy boundaries and were emotionally inconsistent or unable to meet their children’s emotional needs. In this work, I help individuals understand how growing up in an environment like this can affect a person’s development. I help individuals struggling with relationship issues due to patterns learned from their parents/caregivers by developing healthy boundaries, building self-esteem, learning and increasing emotional regulation skills and processing past experiences to improve their life and relationships.
In addition to the psychotherapy services I provide, I also conduct mental health evaluations including required psychological evaluations prior to Bariatric surgery and other medical procedures.
