My name is Erin Carpenter-McGeown, and I am a School Psychology doctoral intern providing therapeutic and assessment services at Ramous Psychology and Associates under the supervision of Dr. Courtney Ramous and Dr. Hannah Thibodeau. I am currently completing my Psy.D. program at Duquesne University, driven by my commitment to supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families in navigating social, emotional, developmental, and academic challenges. I draw upon my experiences as a public and private educator, mental health advocate, and parent to holistically understand my clients and build therapeutic relationships grounded in genuine concern, empathy, and warmth.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education and Child Psychology from Purdue University. I continued my education at Duquesne University, where I earned a Master of Science in Education and obtained certification as a Reading Specialist. Over the course of 12 years, I worked in early childhood settings and K-12 public and private schools. During this time, I specialized in supporting at-risk populations in my Title I position, regular and special education students in integrated classrooms, and developed and implemented Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs), 504 Service Agreements, and Positive Behavioral Interventions. After returning to Duquesne University, I earned a second Master of Science in Child Psychology and advanced my doctoral studies in School Psychology.
Currently, I conduct neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for children and adults and provide individual and family psychotherapy. I work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and other psychiatric, behavioral, and mood disorders. I am trained in administering the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and have experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My therapeutic approach is integrative, incorporating evidence-based strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (with experience in trauma-informed care), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as Exposure Response Prevention and Inference-Based CBT for the treatment of OCD. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, person centered care that fosters positive change in children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds.
