My name is Erin Carpenter-McGeown and I am a thrilled to be a School Psychology doctoral intern providing therapeutic and assessment services with Ramous Psychology and Associates under the supervision of Dr. Courtney Ramous and Dr. Hannah Thibodeau. I am completing my PsyD doctoral program at Duquesne University to continue my commitment to serving children, adolescents, adults and their families in managing social, emotional, developmental and academic challenges. I employ life experiences as a public and private educator, mental health advocate and parent to wholistically understand clientele, and develop therapeutic relationships based on genuine concern, empathy, and warmth.
I graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Education and Child Psychology before attending Duquesne University where I earned my first Masters of Science in Education and certification as a Reading Specialist. For twelve years, I worked in both early childhood settings, and public and private schools in levels K-12. I specialized in at-risk populations in my Title I position, supported regular and special education students in integrated classrooms, and wrote, and implemented Individualized Educational Programs, 504 Service Agreements, and Positive Behavioral Interventions. I returned to Duquesne University and completed my second Masters of Science in Child Psychology and continued earning my doctorate in School Psychology. I have worked with parents and family systems to benefit child and adolescent clients, performed individual psychotherapy and group counseling, and performed psychoeducational report writing. I have training to evaluate and treat depression, anxiety, psychiatric, behavioral and mood disorders as well as experience with neurodivergent clientele with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I practice using an integrated approach model drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (with experience in trauma informed care), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Action Commitment Therapy, as well as other evidence-based strategies and person-centered approaches. My goal is to provide acceptance and compassionate care to facilitate positive change in children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds.
